Q: How are your tuition rates
justified?
A: La Luz ECC is a
private, not for profit, early childhood learning center. There
are very few centers in the Albuquerque
area that are not subsidized, whether by a church, a corporation, or
educational facility.
According to
the NAEYC,
"good care is expensive. It is very important that each caregiver
not be overwhelmed by too many children to care for at one time. Limiting the
number of children per adult ensures that young children get the close
adult supervision and attention they need to learn and to thrive,
particularly during the time they spend outside of the home."
Additionally, "the average child care program relies on parent
fees for as much as 90% of the budget. Consequently, the number of personnel, the equipment, and
other quality improvements can be enhanced
only at the expense of raising parent fees.
At La Luz ECC, we
hire only professionals and thus pay them
as such. This is to ensure the highest quality of care for your child(ren). According to statistics,
the average child care worker in Bernalillo County earned $13,637 per year
(based upon a 12 month
year) in 2000 (the last year in which
statistics were available). In
comparison, the average teacher, for both
elementary and secondary schools,
in Bernalillo
County earned $25,744 per year (based upon a 9 month year) in 2000 and
the average Bernalillo County worker, for all industries, earned $29,167 in
2000. These figures are from the U.S.
Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics.
