Infants/Wee Toddlers (Infants through Young Ones) Infants come into the world ready to learn and love, each with his or her own unique set of characteristics. La Luz ECC's teachers collaborate with families to ensure that the best care is provided based on individual needs. Every child will have a chance to form a healthy bond with his or her teacher. These relationships serve to enhance, but never replace, the child's primary bonds with family members. The group size for Infants/Wee Toddlers (infants through young ones) is seven babies to two adults. We have two groups of Infants/Wee Toddlers within a large room which is divided into two class sections. The infant environment is designed to provide a safe place for babies to grow from babes-in-arms, through creeping and crawling to cruising and walking. There are different floor surfaces to encourage physical exploration and plenty of interesting places to get to, including a non-breakable mirror, safe toys, and ready laps. Cleanliness and an ongoing attention to sanitation are an important part of staff responsibilities. Each child has his or her own crib for napping, but awake time will be spent in interaction. Young infants (less than 6 months old) will be held most of the time, with a gradual introduction to more independent time. Floor time is important to allow infants who cannot yet crawl, the chance to practice reaching for enticing objects and to develop the strength and coordination necessary to creep and then to crawl. The encouragement and shared excitement of a loving adult nearby makes work a wonderful game. All children will be responded to promptly. Infants share an outdoor play yard, with plenty of shade, with the Young Toddlers (outside at different time, of course). The La Luz ECC facility has been designed with a homelike feel that we hope will provide a comfortable environment for breastfeeding moms to drop by during the day to nurse their infants. With a large space, and the very low ratios in the Infant program, it is expected that La Luz ECC infants will enjoy time free of tears and full of security, calmness and developmentally appropriate stimulation.
Ratio is 3:5 to 1 with a class size of 7. We ask parents to provide diapers, wipes, formula/breast mil and baby food. We provide food (as they are able to eat table food), lots of love, comfort and a warm and caring staff. Drop ins are welcome, for enrolled students, on an availability basis at a cost of $70 per day.
