The La Luz Early Childhood Center is part of the initial
construction of the SLFCU branch facility in the Sandia Science & Technology
Park. The architect for this building project was English, Harper, Reta
Architects in Sacramento, California. This page contains the site plan for the
building, a floorplan for the interior of the building with particular focus on
the La Luz ECC portion, and color elevations provided by English, Harper, Reta
Architects. Also included is a detailed plan of the playground.

Location Map
The SLFCU branch facility is located on a two acre
parcel in the Sandia Science & Technology Park between Gibson Blvd SE (Development
Road) and Opportunity Avenue SE at 1301 Britt Street SE (east of Eubank).

Site Plan
The parking lot and the front of the building face
west, while the back of the building faces Britt Street and the mountains.

Floorplan
La Luz ECC occupies approximately 9,500 square feet
in the 14,500 square foot building. For security purposes, there is only one point of access
to
the center, which has a controlled entry system. Classrooms
for infants through two year olds contain more than 60 square feet per child,
which exceeds NAEYC's recommendation of fifty. Children in the pre-school and
pre-kindergarten
program share a 2,100 square foot classroom for blocks, manipulatives,
language & listening, music, and dramatic play, and will use the 900 square
foot eating area for art, science, and any messy projects. All together, this
group will have use of 3000 square feet of learning center space, which meets NAEYC's recommendation.

Playground
The La Luz ECC playground occupies over 6,000
square feet on the north end of the building where it is divided into two
sections: one for the older toddlers and one for the pre-schoolers and
pre-kindergartners year olds. It features a park-like
atmosphere with a tricycle path for the older children, separate climbing structures specially developed for
the appropriate age group, sandboxes, age-appropriate swings, outdoor lighting, and
many other entertaining activities that develop coordination and gross motor
skills.
A separate playground for Infants and Young Toddlers is
located off the east side of the building. An ample patio area encourages our
younger children to walk using various push toys. Bucket swings and an
age-appropriate play structure inside a large sandbox as well as a grass area
complete the playground. It is designed to encourage and develop gross motor
skills and coordination in a secure and shaded environment.
